art as work

You know when you’re an artist and everything you do for fun is making art
And you know when you start taking art classes at school and you’re like, alright
You know when you’re an artist and you decide you should be doing this for a living
And you know when you start majoring in visual arts and you’re like, alright

And suddenly you do what you like for work and what you work for fun
And it feels like a tree being planted upside down?
My roots reach out for water, stretching desperately for
liquid
and all they find is
air
dense, immense wind

My brain cortexes just got swapped over
they’re crying like a crying baby in a busy supermarket
thinking he lost his mom forever

Art classes suck the art out of me
and when I want to create
for myself
All I can suck out is
duh?
